Protecting Mandarin Chinese

As a tool of communication, language plays a key role in the development and spread of culture. Given the importance of a language to a country, many experts are showing concern about the development of the Chinese language, which is now facing unprecedented challenges.
A large percentage of the Chinese population can not communicate in the standard spoken Chinese, known as Putonghua. Written language has also met with similar problems. For example, teachers of Chinese say they cannot understand what their students are trying to convey in their essays since they use irregular Chinese or fragments of English words, expressions and abbreviations. And existing side by side with the standard spoken Putonghua, there are other dialects, which are each further divided into several accents. As a result, although people all speak Chinese, they cannot understand each other.Promoting Putonghua is needed to surmount the obstacles that arise during communication. The development of Putonghua must be seen as imperative by the government and every member of the society.

Personal Development: Nature or Nurture?

There is no denying that many factors contribute to the development of children. In my opinion, postnatal nurture is more important than the congenital factors for personal growth and progress.
The main reason is that the success of a child would not be separated from right teaching and personal effort. Currently, the success of many scientists and politicians attributes to their hard working.
Another reason is that without hard work, no matter how intelligent children are, they will be far from success, for instance , many geniuses become common later, mostly due to the lack of diligence. Last but not the least, natural factors natural factors in success are losing their advantages, thanks to the advance in science and technology.
Therefore, if people are satisfied with their natural advantages, they will become the biggest failures.

Decorating Your Home

Not many years ago, most people lived in poverty, so they could not spare money to do the decoration. In addition, at the time, no professional painters and decorators provided this kind of service.
Today, however, it is quite a different story. With the development of the economy, people now are much better off, so they can afford the cost of decoration. What is more, there appears a new industry producing decoration materials and there are a lot of firms providing the decoration service.
However, every coin has two sides. House decoration also has its advantages and disadvantages. A well-decorated house can make people feel more comfortable and more relaxed. But some people make too much change in the house, as a result, the structure of the house is damaged and a potential danger exists.

Reading Selectively or Extensively?

Reading Selectively or Extensively?
With the development of science and technology, there has been a boom in the ways for us to get information. But reading books still remains essential to the acquisition of knowledge. The forms of reading may differ from person to person. Some prefer to read selectively rather than read extensively. To them, the range of knowledge is so wide that it's beyond their reach to cover every field. With purposeful reading, much of their time and energy will be saved. And it's no use to learn about things that have no relation to their own special field of study.
In contrast, others insist on reading extensively. In this fast changing information age, an all-round person is preferable to a person with a narrow range of knowledge and abilities. In order to keep pace with the highly developed society, they want to arm themselves with as much information as possible lest they should fall behind others and the world.
My view on reading is a combination of the two options. We should read selectively on the books that we major in or feel interested in. In the meantime, we should read extensively in order to enrich our knowledge, broaden our horizon, and lead a more colorful life.
